Teasel

A common tall flower found in fields and roadsides. A spiny, honeycombed, rounded-bobbin-shaped flower head, with tiny purple florets in "rings of lavender" that start in the middle of the head and work up and down. The spiny leaves are joined at the spiny stems in a water trap. The crawling insect-blocking water-traps frequently hold water. The spiny flower/bobbin heads persist all winter.

Originally, a crop locally cultivated for the honeycombed heads which were used in textile production.
