Indian Hemp

Fairly common flower/bush found by roadsides and open fields. Tiny little (not very showy) flowers in a cluster. Bush-like growth with hollow stems, not woody. Often found in unmowed fields - similar to Common Milkweed. Particular small, rust-orange butterflies seem to always favor these "bushes".

In fall, the leaves turn pale-gold, standing out among field grasses. Indian Hemp is perhaps its most noticeable as patches of fall gold in overgrown fields.

Related to Spreading Dogbane except Indian Hemp has the tiny white flowers.
