Blood Root

A common very-early spring flower that prefers well-drained soils in woods. Beautiful, symetric, very white, 8-petal flowers with a ring of yellow stamens. Flowers tend to last just a few days. The sage-green leaf mantles flower stalk as it emerges. Supposedly, the juice of the root has a blood-like color.

The very regular form and erect posture, makes patches of these look like a troops of toy soldiers.
