Crooked-Stemmed Aster

An extremely common blue Aster in the area, in a broad range of fields-wood edges. Blooms early (late August) continuing until frost. Many-rayed flowers are light-blue/pale-violet with yellow centers. Leaves are "double-reflexed" curved, smooth and clasping on stems. The clasping leaves curve concave 1/2 way from the stem, and then curve convex to a shovel tip; toothed on the convex part. Stems turn slightly at leaf nodes, particularily toward the top.

Blue asters are particularily confusing, not even sure I've identified correctly. Send a suggestion to: Dan Eckstrom's mail
