Adder's Tongue
Trout Lilly
Dogtooth Violet

A common spring flower in moist woods around streams. The yellow/yellow-red_specks lilly flower has very reflexed petals and long stamens. The thick 3-4" leaves are generally speckled brown and pale-green - like markings a trout. Usually plentiful, but late snows sometimes wipe-out a whole year's crop.

Many local/regional names. I prefer the name Trout Lilly because of the leaves and where its found, but Adder's Tongue is what i was taught.
