Topography and Environs
Potato Hill State Forest consist of hill land with poor soil. Not too
interesting, but is isolated on hilltop with Level Green Road.
Towards Shindagin/Rt 330, nice valley with view down Speedville
valley. One notable stream with mixed plantation forest
plantings.
Finger Lakes Trail
Trail in OK condition. Linear trail, hard to make "loops" with
roads. Trail head can be found on Blackman Hill Rd near Tower Rd or
on Level Green Rd in the state lands near the top of the hill. Hard
to find on Old Seventy Six Rd. Section from Level Green Rd. to Old
Seventy Six Rd (Rt. 330) has some old "stripe" plantation forests with
fairly mature trees alternating species every 20-30 yards. Field has
nice views of Speedville valley. Some adjacent timbering to NW.
Between Level Green Rd and Blackman Hill Rd, not too interesting. Old
fire tower on Tower Road, north of Blackman Hill Rd, taken down in
70's?; nice view at 1900'.
